The Anglers Rest is pleased to be starting a new service in conjunction with SaucedHere, a unique collaboration of around 40 local producers, farmers and businesses that work together to providing a supermarket style delivery of Peak District products.

A new edition of CAMRA’s Peak District Pub Walks has just been published and The Anglers Rest is one of the pubs included. There are 24 walking routes and 3 cycle trails and all the pubs listed are real ale pubs.

The Anglers Rest has joined Business Peak District, the voice for businesses in the area covered by the Peak District National Park, High Peak, Staffordshire Moorlands and Derbyshire Dales.

Their vision is for a Peak District with a distinctive, high quality rural environment and an enterprising, growing and sustainable rural economy.

1st June 2017 Anglers Rest at the Palace
In recognition of the work done by the members of Bamford Community Society  in promoting the co-operative movement John & Sally Soady attended the Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

5th May 2017 The Anglers Rest awarded LEADER funding
The Anglers Rest are delighted to have been awarded grant funding towards a refurbishment of the pub, to take place this Autumn. The funds will allow us to incorporate a log burner, refurbish the men’s toilets, and generally improve the decor, lighting, etc.

The part funding is by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, via Derbyshire County Council.

27th March 2017 Anglers Rest is a finalist in the PRS for Music Makeover
The Anglers Rest was one of 5 finalists in the PRS For Music Music Makeover for Pubs competition.

18th March 2017 The Anglers Rest awarded Big Lottery funds
The Anglers Rest has been awarded funds from the Big Lottery Awards for All programme to make the outdoor seating area more accessible by levelling the area and getting rid of the steps and crazy paving. The work will start in the next few weeks and includes building in a BBQ for use over the summer.

12th March 2017 Solar panel ‘Switch on’
After a huge amount of work by our volunteers, clearing the laurel hedge, digging out weeds, building the frame and of course everyone who voted, we had our M&S funded solar panels installed and ‘switched on’ by Sarah Fowler, Chief Executive of the Peak District National Park.

28th January 2017 Open Share offer launched
Bamford Community Society launches an Open Share offer, enabling people to join the Society or increase their investment to help fund the exciting development we have planned for the pub. Offer document and forms under ‘Investing’

The offer has been awarded the Community Shares Standard Mark, which is awarded by the Community Shares Unit to offers that meet national standards of good practice.

7th December 2016 New Rules approved by the FCA
Following the unanimous decision of the Members meeting held in November, our new Rules were submitted to the FCA for approval. A copy of the Rules is available under Policies.

The Anglers wins a judges prize in the M&S Community Energy Fund!

WHAT THE JUDGE’S SAID: A unanimous vote amongst the judges as the project showed clear and enthusiastic community support. The judges were particularly impressed with the drive within the community to make sure they didn’t lose this community hub raising money between themselves with community shares to buy the pub and make it into something unique and special.

The Anglers Rest is really excited to have been shortlisted for the M&S Community Energy fund – if we win we will put solar panels on the bank at the top of the car park to help reduce our high energy bills, over £20k p.a.

16th May 2016 The Anglers Rest awarded Heritage Lottery Grant
Bamford Community Society and Bamford District History Society have been jointly supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to research the history of The Anglers Rest, digitally enhance and print some of the old photos of the Anglers to hang in the pub, we will also produce a leaflet etc. At the moment we are seeking people with photos and anecdotes, especially from the 1950’s onwards.english_compact_pantone

The Anglers Rest appeared in a special edition of The One Show looking at the state of British Pub, with stories of pub closing and ones, such as The Anglers being saved by the community.

14th March 2016 The Building work has finished!
The scaffolding has come down and the new roof and windows can be seen in all their glory. All the remedial work to deal with the numerous problems are less visible, but very important to giving the new roof a long life.

30th October 2015 Building work to start on the 9th November
Work is due to start on The Anglers on the 9th November, though some preparatory work may start from the 2nd. The work is expected to complete immediately before Christmas.

The work is predominately:
* The replacement of the roof, including installing insulation.
* Replacement of some of the windows in the cafe
* The installation of a solar PV array
* Preparatory work to install a fire.

Most of the work will be on the outside of the building, with any disruption to the business being kept to an absolute minimum.

3rd October 2015 Drop-in session on the building work
With the building work due to start October, there is a drop-in session on Monday 19th October, in the cafe, between 4pm and 7pm, with information on the timescale and nature of the plans.

September 2014 Anglers Rest hosts MSc Architecture student project
Sheffield School of Architecture Masters degree includes a ‘Live’ project,  giving students the opportunity to prototype design concepts in a “real-world” setting, with a particular emphasis on community participation and collaboration with clients and stakeholders. Bamford is pleased to be one of the 2014 Live projects.MSc Architecture students
